According to the third edition of the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report, the top six business skills that will be in demand in 2025 are:

  • Analytical thinking and innovation
  • Active learning and learning strategies
  • Complex problem solving
  • Critical thinking and analysis
  • Creativity, originality and innovation
  • Leadership and social influence
What is remarkable is that these are all considered “soft” skills, skills that are vital for success as the workplace evolves socially and technologically.

What is more remarkable is that the lack of these soft skills, in candidates and employees, is the biggest proficiency gap in the workforce today.

Addressing the skills shortfall in the workplace means that companies must look beyond conventional training and draw on expertise from novel and untapped sources. Although several effective tools and processes are used for soft skills training, none are as effective as theater.  In fact, theater is emerging as one of the most powerful mediums available and is finding its way as a highly effective training tool for corporate organizations.

Think about it. Actors are highly skilled at communicating, empathizing, engaging and persuading. They learn to weave stories and engage with the audience, they understand the power of presence and being “in the moment”, they listen, they adapt, they connect, they inspire, they lead and influence. They learned these skills and so can you.

Center Stage, the first and only professional English theater in Israel, is offering a range of Theater Skills for Business workshops that draw on the actor’s toolkit to specifically address the growing skills gap in the workplace.

From breath, voice and movement techniques to presentation analysis, storytelling and improvisation, the workshops enable participants to immerse themselves in an active learning environment that utilizes and develops these vital skill sets that foster both career and personal development.

It’s clear that soft skills are becoming absolutely essential for not only the workforce of today but of tomorrow. It is also clear that the theater is a fertile environment for developing and honing these skills. By focusing on these, and by providing training on how they can be applied to work tasks, employers and employees alike are laying the groundwork for a successful future.
